Description: LectraFinish is a water-based liquid loaded with
dissolved crystals. These crystals will become solid
and crystallize when the water evaporates.
When applied over a painted surface, LectraFinish
serves as a liquid mask (or you could call it a
stencil) for paint. Therefore, LectraFinish will work
with virtually any paint or any surface!

So how do you use it?

LectraFinish is used as a stencil between 2 coats of
paint. after your second coat of paint is dry, simply
take a wet sponge and wipe away the crystals. The
crystals will “melt” in the presence of water, and
wash away
leaving a beautiful, exotic, unique design. A clear
coat applied as a final step will complete the
illusion of a 3 dimensional crystal surface.

Pros: Great tech. support from the company,... one product, many different looks.
Cons: Very touch,... every thing had better be just right when applied.

After reading the instructions sent to me with the product,... I attempted using the Lectra as instructed only to find that instead of flowing out on the surface, it wanted to bead up like water on fresh paint. In the instructions it states to, "avoid using any solvent based cleaning solutions, as the residual hydrocarbons (oil) in the solvents will inhibit crystallization. Soap and water works best."
My surface was uncontaminated, so I used neither, and that was my mistake. After a call to Chad at Lectra,... I washed the surface with soap and the product layed down and crystalized the way it should have. I hope that in future instructions they make this one of the included steps,... not a suggestion.
Unfortuneatly by this time I only had enough product left for one test panel, but hope to do an in depth reveiw of the product for the Magezine when I get some more and can test it at different temperatures and under different conditions.

Pros: it works just takes practice
Cons: none

I played around with it for a day on different surfaces. If you follow directions it works pretty good. It would take some practice to produce results like those pictured. Temp. really has alot to do with the size crystal formed the cooler the temp. slower the dry time the bigger the crystal you get. Worth a try I give it a thumbs up. Just be prepared to experiment with it before you do something you want to be final piece.
