** Please be aware changes where made to the auto air line in early 2006, reviews posted here before that date might not apply to the newest auto air.
Auto Air Colors are water-based custom automotive paint.
Auto Air Colors have over 200 every colors and effects, all of which are intermixable for endless color creations. Colors include pearls, pearl-flakes, metal-flake, metallic colors, chameleons, chameleon-pearl flakes, candy colors, iridescent colors and more. Sizes available are 4oz., 16oz. 32oz. and 1 Gallon.
Auto Air Colors are for complete paintjobs, graphics onto existing finishes or for intermixing with urethane paintjobs. Auto Air Colors are compatible with all urethane products allowing them to work with all urethane paint systems. Auto Air Colors are the perfect compliment to other paint systems which lack custom color options.
Auto Air Colors are ready to spray out of the bottle without the need for mixing a catalyst or reducer. Colors may be thinned with Auto Air Reducer to achieve a lower viscosity when spraying with an airbrush. Auto Air Colors do not have a limited pot life during use and their storage life exceeds 2 years.
Auto Air Colors do not have time windows. They may be top-coated with a urethane clear at any time after they’ve cured no matter how long the time period between painting and clearing there is. Auto Air Colors are compatible with all urethane clears.
Auto Air Colors are lightfast and durable. Auto Air Colors contain less than 0.1% V.O.C. Auto Air Colors have been tested according to industry-wide accepted standards for fade resistance and durability.

Great Colors

Cons:

Need to intercoat to do any masking
So far I\'ve painted a motorcycle and a few helmets.
I really like this paint. Non-Toxic.
I wish they would come out with some kind of an intercoat. Masks won\'t stick to a base coat witout
a clear coat. I order the 4oz bottle and it goes a long way.

Pros:

Does not peel up like the old Auto Air
Cons:
don\'t mix with old auto air
I\'ve used this on a couple helmets and even some pine wood derby cars. Works great and sprays well! Adheres better than the old auto air. I tried using the old and new together, and unfortunately started with the old and then applied the new over it. The old didn\'t adhere well, and ended up peeling up in a few places. Had to do it all over, using what new auto air colors I had, and mixed the rest of my colors.
The new Auto Air is great, stay away from the old stuff.

I\'m very very new to ab\'ing. I was unable to get any kind of good spray pattern with my Badger 175 fine, medium, or wide tips. I was told(on this website after I bought them) that these are not good starter paints. I called AutoAir and they informed me that these paints work best with an ab tip of .2mm at 40-50psi Is this what you artists are using? Got any suggestions?

I\'ve not been AB\'ing very long but I have found the AA to be a nice paint to use. Its very easy to clean up and can be cleared with almost any clear. Even with my cheapie Harbor Frieght AB I can get some fine lines.

Pros:

HEALTH - HEALTH - HEALTH I guess I already siad that.
Cons:
fisheye\'s if heavy coats are applied.
I really like the AutoAir line of paint for it’s LOW VOC’s it makes it worth the bottle Windex and art mop brush if you know what I mean.
And if not you will lol.
No really the paint tends to dry fast on my .23 needle and frequent tip cleanings are needed to keep this paint flowing well, but once you get the hang of it it’s well worth the extra step needed to save your heath from the high VOC’s of urethanes.
The colors are bright and adhere well but tend to fisheye if heavy coats are applied
If you can shoot this paint well you shouldn’t have any problems shooting uro’s.

lots of colors, cover well
Cons:

heavy coats fisheye, tend to come up when taped
You have to be careful to put real light coats on at first. The colors are bright and there are lots of them.
Spots come up with tape sometimes, but use of uro intercoat clear helps with that.

Pros:
great colors, low odor, low voc content, no window for clearing
Cons:
none if you've never used uro's
Great safe alternative to uro's. Excellent line of opaque's, metallics, transparents, etc. Any clear compatable and no window time. ***use a reducer of Fantastik cleaner and water 50/50, sprays a lot cleaner and very much like uro's. if not, may have grainy texture.***

Pros:

ultra low VOC, improved dramatically from old stuff
Cons:
tip dry, still sprays a little grainy,
Once you learn the system, it's actually a very easy paint to use, especially for hobbiests like me eho can't afford a big ventilation system like I'd need with uros.
Sprayability is good when you use the fantastik/water mix trick, or using thier new reducer. Still not up to the quality of a uro, but much improved over the old stuff.
I also use PPG envirobase for normal paints (nonmetalic, etc), expecially for details. The PPG sprays better, and when you add a dash of fantastik reducer, it sprays very, very close to a uro.
I've had no compatability issues with the AA and PPG, and between the AA's wide selection, and the graphic ability of the PPG, they make a great system

I use AA almost exclusively for my work.....very seldom will I use a uro for anything but the occasional base coat or truley custom color. The biggest bonus to me is having no time window to clear. You can clear it immediately, or 2 years from now without having to do ANYTHING to the painted surface! I can now take AS LONG AS NEEDED to complete my artwork, and not have to worry about inter-clearing it, or scuffing the surface. Please, people, do not use the home-made reducers! AA has 2 performance reducers that make it spray like a uro! Trust the chemical engineers who developed it. I've had no taping problems if the surface was properly prepared (AA does not chemically bond to anything, so you must have a physical scratch for it to stick.) I use 800 grit wet paper or a red scotty pad to prep my surfaces, and have never had a problem. You can go to my website at www.bigdaddycustoms.net to see examples of my auto-air work.
