Description:
|
Iwata's Smart Jet is a great compressor for the occasional and professional artist doing general airbrush applications. The Smart Jet is powerful, compact, reliable, and quiet.
The Smart Jet Compressor shuts itself off automatically when not in use. This helps prevent heat-related moisture buildup, reduces running time, and lengthens the life of the motor.
This compressor has a maintenance-free, oil-less, piston motor, with an on/off switch. A moisture filter prevents pulsation. A mounted air pressure gauge allows a working pressure up to 35 psi. A high strength polyurethane air hose is included, which fits all Iwata airbrushes. The Smart Jet also has a built-in airbrush holder.

For over a year I was using a larger 'hot dog' type tank compressor. This works great for air tools like nailers, and blowing up vehicle tires. For use with an airbrush it is noisy to the point of actually startling you when it kicks in to fill the tank after a few moments spraying. I would actually wear hearing protectors to block out the start up noise when I was spraying a model.
The Iwata Smart Jet is like night and day compared to the other type of compressor. It has a small footprint, has little to no vibration, is lightweight, comes with a built in moisture trap and presure gauge and an airbrush holder. OK, the airbrush holder is a bit hokey but it's there. The standard working presure is a little too high for my model spraying requirements, but the presure can be dialed down with the attached knurled metal knob on the moisture trap. This creates a constant air bleed situation which causes the motor to constantly run. Next to my work bench it is barely above a whisper and as of yet I have not found it to be overly annoying. When I dont need to spray for a few minutes I simply turn the unit off and its quiet. The instant presure on demand situation when the unit is on is great. No lag time in waiting for the tank to fill.
After several long spraying sessions I found the motor to be hot to the touch but not to the point where the unit shut itself down to cool. The owners manual indicates this may occur to prevent damage to the unit.
Overall a great investment, and from the location I purchased it from up here in Canada it was well below the MSRP.
For someone starting out, don't waste time and money getting something to ' tide you over '. Wait, save, then buy quality. The better the tool the easier the work.

Nice little compressor for use with a gravity feed airbrush and airbrush illustration type paint (Comart, Golden airbrush colors).
Not for airbrushing T shirts. Might struggle a bit if you are trying to use Createx or T Shirt Textile colors.
