CLEAR TRACING/MASKING FILM
Airbrush, kustom painting masking material review.

MASKING FILM FOR AIRBRUSHING/CUSTOM PAINTING
By Don Johnson
CLEAR TRACING/MASKING FILM distributed by RBL Products
I found this masking film at my local auto paint supplier and thought I would give it a try as it looked pretty interesting. My supplier carried two flavors of this masking film a 2" by 24' roll and 6" by 24" roll both pictured below. The small roll has a retail price of about $8.00 and the bigger roll about $11.00.
This material is a low track, clear transparent, self-adhering film that you can draw on using a grease pencil, marker or pen. It has a slightly textured surface enabling you to braw or trace on it. You can reposition it numerous times with no problem of it not adhering, lifting during the painting process.
I played with it for a short time on a Spiderman helmet I was working on and it came in pretty handy for doing some of the webbing on the helmet. The masking material cut fairly easy with a new number 11 blade, conformed to the curved surface fine. I use it over a clear coat and was able to reposition it over and over with no problem; in fact it was pretty impressive in this regard.
On projects where seeing what’s under your masking material is important this stuff rocks and could be a great addition to your inventory of masking materials. I used solvent based paints on the helmet and the masking material worked very well with the paint with no ill affects being seen.
The low track adhesive was very impressive and left absolutely no residue on my painting surface. The ability to pick it up and reposition it was real handy thru out the project I used it on.
To sum it up I found it to be everything as advertised and give it five out of five stars.
