Badger 150 airbrush
Badger 150 Airbrush Replacing the fluid tip or nozzle on a Badger 150 airbrush.
by Don Johnson
The Badger 150 double action airbrush is the first airbrush for many people because it's fairly inexpensive as double action airbrushes goes. The marketing of an airbrush that comes with three different size tip or nozzle, needle combinations is very appealing to those new to airbrushing.
The Badger 150 comes with or is available with a Fine, Medium and Large tip, needle combination. The thinking behind this I guess was that you'd use the Fine for detail work with thinned or low viscosity paints. The Medium for covering a larger area than the Fine and the Large for spraying thick or heavy viscosity paints.
With most airbrushes replacing the fluid nozzle is pretty straight forward; you just replace the fluid nozzle which comes as a separate part. The Badger 150 however the best way to replace the fluid nozzle is to change the entire head assembly. This can be easily accomplished by simply unscrewing the entire head assembly from the body of the airbrush. Don't forget the old child's saying "righty tighty and lefty loosely".
Be sure to replace the Teflon Head washer if it's damaged in the slightest way, part number 50-055 in the diagram below. Not replacing that worn out part can cause a air leak in that area and an airbrush that does not function properly.
The other item to watch when replacing a fluid nozzle, head assembly (part number 50-0161, 50-0162, 50-0163) is that you have a Fine head assembly and Fine needle in the airbrush. Do not mix a Fine head assembly with a Medium needle or you will have problems when you go to use the airbrush. Only use a Fine head assembly with a Fine needle.
** Caution: Do not over tighten the head assembly when you install it as breaking the threads off in the airbrush body can occur fairly easily.
I hope you found this helpful and keep in mind it's just paint, relax and have fun.
