Default Contest rules

Starting with the new skull contest, the following rules for all contests in the future will apply:

1) Voting on the contests will be by forum members

2) One contest per month with (1) subscribing member winning an airbrush and (1) non-subscribing member winning the past two issues of Airbrush Technique

3) Only new material done specifically for the contest ( no old paintings)

4) All entries must include (4) progress pictures and (1) of the finished piece in order to be eligible

5) Must be at least (10) different entries to make it a legitamate contest, if there are less than (10) entries the contest will be null and void, no prizes awarded.

I know some of you are questioning how these are written, some minor modifications have been made in order to try to stay within the forums budget, thanks in advance for your understanding

Start posting some ideas here you have for future contests, we will try to use as many as possible, just remember try to challenge everyones skills, pros and newbies alike, thats really what this contest is about, making everyones skills improve.
Thanks, Brushbyair

*** We came up with these contest rules by requesting input from the members, members voted on the rules that are posted above.

good question redneck, I personnaly don't see a problem if they vote in the poll, it will only come down to them voting again in a tie breaker between the leading vote getters, so they may have to vote for someone they didn't vote for in the first place, but this is a discussion that everyone should have a say in so let it fly.

I think there will be more than enough voters that you wouldn't need the past winners votes. You should just use their votes for tie break only.
My two cents.

I have a question about the rules and the subject matter chosen. In the case of the skull, are we supposed to be doing a faithful rendering, or our interpretation, or just using it as inspiration for our own piece? These are 3 very different things in most peoples minds, and should be made quite clear to entrants and judges alike.

Not really a rule,... but a suggestion. Any chance when it comes time to vote,... that we could delete all the posts out of the thread that are not entrees. Picking through 12 or 13 pages becomes a chore. Or maybe we could have a thread for entrees only, and another for comments,... what evers easiest for you guys. Just a thought.

Kicks has a pretty good idea. I agree that a Presentation Thread should be used and have another thread be used for commenting. That way we don't have ongoing threads. I'll bet some people might just vote for the first thing they see because they don't wanna go through 30 pages.

Ok I'm totally new to this forum. I have a few questions. Does the contest have a beginning date and an end date? All I can gather is primary subject matter is to be a skull. Correct? Do I just attach all the required pics in one message or put them on as I get them done?

Evo, the contest has already started and you're welcome to give it a shot. Make sure to have your submission (only 1) in by September 9th. As for the pictures, I would include the finished product and progression pictures all in one post. If you aren't sure how then Don has Help Guides on how to post images. If they are all together then it will be a lot easier to view and less stress trying to search for scattered posts. *These contests get quite popular* Also, the skull has to be the reference provided, but can be altered however you like as long as we still know that's the reference you used.

I think that you may want to emphasis the fact that if you don't have progess pics that you will not be entered. Not a big deal but I think that the folks would want to know that is a requirement, not a suggestion. There were a few on the October contest that did not have progress pics and are not entered, and the first entry in November does not have progress as well.
Thanks,
TABG

Rule #7 clearly states the requirement.
