Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Welcome Mustang. I haven't ever painted shoes, but XzoticInk is fantastic at it. I'm sure she would give you any advice ya may need as soon as she spots this thread. You came to a great place to learn.

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Hey 92. Which brush you use is really a personal prefrence. I use Iwata HPC for most of my shoe/boot stuff. As for paint, createx is the one for me but once again, that is prefrence. Depending on what kind of material you are painting on, just heat set the paint. If you are going over leather, you may have to spray a clear over it. We use Krylon. Real light coats with heating inbetween each coat. There's a couple of more folks that I am sure will chime in on this so see what info you get and keep us in the loop.
Good luck.

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Spot on KD, Ink is the resident footwear vandal (hehe)!
Mustang, do you have any equipment yet? have you ever airbrushed or what experience do you have?
From what I can tell, not being a shoe painter myself, is that Createx or Goldens seam to be the go for fabric or leather, how color fast or wear resistant is something I have no idea about sorry.
On the equipment front, well, this is totally dependent on what you want to achieve in the long term and how deep your pockets are.
I dare say others will chip in and explain things far better than I ever could, I just hope I was of some help.

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
I have no equipment and I have no experience airbrushing shoes but I do know how to customize shoes using Angelus leather paint. I've made several pairs of AF1 & Nike Dunks

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Those are such pure lines and coloring--and no overspray? I'd love to watch
a pair of those being painted. Maybe a tutorial???? How about it, Ink? Love
your work. Would like to learn. GB

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Those lines are done with a paint pen or some kinda marker. There's noway those thin lines are airbrushed without having overspray. If I'm wrong, sorry, but I'd need a video for proof. Nice kicks tho. I'm sure the solid colors are airbrushed but not those thin lines.

Looking at the Sekured web site the shoes look really good, I would have layed money on them being printed at the factory, so clean and neat. Great designs.
No idea how your mate can paint so precise without him having those paint robots!

Re: Airbrushing Shoes
Your are probably right Jam. We use a triple 0 brush to do our thin border lines. Createx paint thinned out. Airbrush all of the colors then go in with a thin brush to eliminate any edge and sharpen. Hey, as long as they look good right?

Thanks, Voodoo. Depending on how many of a design I am doing, I use either 2 inch masking tape or if there are many of a single design, I will make a stencil of the pattern of the area not to be painted. As for the actual design, it depends on what they want on them. I usually am doing a specific image or idea based on what the customer/company wants. Probably 50/50 freehand and stencil. If the design can be done with some handcut stencils thats the way I go. Whatever is easier and as long as it comes out right. Let me know if you have any more questions. Happy to help.
